We have always tried to include our kids in the things that we do. Both Justin and I were really social people before we had kids and loved attending events and festivals and anything in between. All of them have been attending events like French Quarter Festival since they were 6 months or so old. However Mardi Gras was something we didn’t do right away with Peyton and Paxton.
I think Peyton was 2.5 when we went to our first parade. I wasn’t sure how to navigate parades with toddlers and Peyton was a runner so taking them anywhere at night was extra nerve wracking. From the moment they saw their first parade they were hooked.
I love seeing things through their eyes and I love that they have their own opinions. Pax always wants to see the bands and Peyton is there for the doubloons and candy. Pops is still hitting his groove but for now he loves it all. This year we have been to four parades and have a few more planned on our schedule before Mardi Gras is over. They are always ready, always willing to go and always ready for fun!
What a difference a year makes…
It’s always hard deciding what to have for the kids to wear to parades. Louisiana is always a shot in the dark. It could be blazing hot or it could be freezing cold. Even in February you just never know. I try to have a short sleeve and long sleeve options for them. This year I invested in the fleece vests. I liked them because they were Mardi Gras colors and with an early Mardi Gras chances are you are going to have to wear a coat. The vests keep their arms free but are also Mardi Gras colors so didn’t get covered up. So far they have loved them and they have been easy to get them to keep them on.
Shirt // Vest // Jeans // Shoes
One more weekend and a few days next week and the season will be over so enjoy it while you can and make the most of it.
Happy Mardi Gras,
Tippy
