One week out from hosting Justin’s 50th birthday d One week out from hosting Justin’s 50th birthday dinner and emceeing Hammers & Heels, so today officially kicked off my beauty marathon.

Started with a facial at The Ritual Co., and yes, I’m here for the glow… but honestly, the real win was an uninterrupted hour to sit still, be taken care of, and fully relax.
Learning to love your body isn’t a linear journey Learning to love your body isn’t a linear journey and it often doesn’t have a clear and definitive end. I’ve worked for the better part of a decade on my relationship with my body. I’ve done a lot of work. I’ve honored her, encouraged her, I’ve chosen to see her as good. It’s been an intentional journey to really break down and know my body is good, just as it it.

But just when I think I have evolved past being critical of myself I go to try on swimsuits and boom I’m back. This past weekend I went to try on swimsuits. It was a last minute decision and I just popped in a store. I talked to an associate and realized she was picking things and putting them into a fitting room for me. I could feel my pulse starting to race. Initially I was frustrated with myself for feeling insecure about trying on suits but then I remembered that this is a journey. I politely told the sales associate that I just didn’t think I was ready to try on. In the kindest way she said, it’s fine, I’ll mark some things down and when you feel ready just come back.

I’m telling you this story because sometimes it’s easy to look at people who share their lives online and think they some how have mastered living themselves in a way that you can never achieve. The truth is that for many people it’s something we still struggle with from time to time.

Just remind yourself that like most things in life there is no medal for being the most secure person in the room. Give yourself grace and just repeat after me, my body is good just as it is.

First, try things. You are going to be stuck if you always go with a comfortable formula.

Second, if YOU think YOU look good then go with it. You don’t need someone else seal of approval.

Universal Thread by Target

Target introduced four new lines to the stores over the last year.  Goodfellow and Co for men, Joy Lab for workout gear and A New Day and Universal Thread for ladies.  A New Day is now on its third collection in the stores and was more widely introduced when it launched.

Universal Thread made it’s debut in February this year focusing on denim with a mix of tops, dresses, accessories and shoes.  The price point ranges from $5.00 to $39.00.  Things that make Universal Thread different than some of Target’s other lines is that is has a focus on outfit making rather than just a large collection.  You will see a smaller curated collection rather than the larger set ups like A New Day.

Universal Thread has a specific target market and that is denim lovers.  The line is very reminiscent of Madewell and the quality is there too.  I love the attention to detail such as the buttons and laces that a lot of their pieces have.  The denim looks good and is comfortable and fits like it should unlike some other affordable denim lines.

The truth of the matter is that no matter who you are denim probably has a place somewhere in your wardrobe.  Target is smart in their growth and they recognized that Mossimo wasn’t cutting it anymore.  I always had issues with the fit of the Mossimo denim and wasn’t one to shop with them for my denim.  All of that has changed with the introduction of Universal Thread.

Universal Thread is casual and fun and the fabrics are effortless.  Their denim is on point but I first fell in love with their dresses…

A few things  I have learned about the Universal Thread line.  It runs slightly small.  With Target’s other lines I know my sizes and can pick things up without trying them on.  With Universal Thread I am discovering that some of the tops run smaller than others so I am making sure I am trying things on each time.

Dress // Hat // Shoes

I really love everything they did for the spring and the fall but I am even more excited to see what they do in the fall and winter. Fall is prime denim season and I am ready for everything they can throw at me.

Also, I need to credit my amazing photographer Melissa Breedlove Photography for these photos.  Endless Summer Tans for my beautiful summer glow and Hambone for letting us use their location for this shoot.

XO, Tippy
