One week out from hosting Justin’s 50th birthday d One week out from hosting Justin’s 50th birthday dinner and emceeing Hammers & Heels, so today officially kicked off my beauty marathon.

Started with a facial at The Ritual Co., and yes, I’m here for the glow… but honestly, the real win was an uninterrupted hour to sit still, be taken care of, and fully relax.
Learning to love your body isn’t a linear journey Learning to love your body isn’t a linear journey and it often doesn’t have a clear and definitive end. I’ve worked for the better part of a decade on my relationship with my body. I’ve done a lot of work. I’ve honored her, encouraged her, I’ve chosen to see her as good. It’s been an intentional journey to really break down and know my body is good, just as it it.

But just when I think I have evolved past being critical of myself I go to try on swimsuits and boom I’m back. This past weekend I went to try on swimsuits. It was a last minute decision and I just popped in a store. I talked to an associate and realized she was picking things and putting them into a fitting room for me. I could feel my pulse starting to race. Initially I was frustrated with myself for feeling insecure about trying on suits but then I remembered that this is a journey. I politely told the sales associate that I just didn’t think I was ready to try on. In the kindest way she said, it’s fine, I’ll mark some things down and when you feel ready just come back.

I’m telling you this story because sometimes it’s easy to look at people who share their lives online and think they some how have mastered living themselves in a way that you can never achieve. The truth is that for many people it’s something we still struggle with from time to time.

Just remind yourself that like most things in life there is no medal for being the most secure person in the room. Give yourself grace and just repeat after me, my body is good just as it is.

First, try things. You are going to be stuck if you always go with a comfortable formula.

Second, if YOU think YOU look good then go with it. You don’t need someone else seal of approval.

Seersucker and Sazeracs

On May 18 the St. Tammany Art Association (STAA) will host their 4th Annual Seersucker and Sazeracs event at the Southern Hotel in Covington.  Seersucker and Sazeracs  is one of the largest fundraisers that STAA hosts and helps to raise funds to provide quality programming and cultural enrichment to our local community.  Each year STAA offers free exhibitions, six different art markets and events like Spring and Fall for Art.

This event held at the beautiful Southern Hotel’s Camellia Ballroom is an evening to remember.  Guests will be treated to the musical stylings of the NOLA Jitterbugs as well as an array of items to bid on in the silent auction.  Food and Drink will be provided by the New Orleans made famous Sazerac and hors d’oeuvres will be served from several of the Northshore’s finest restaurants.  The event will run from 7 to 10 but make sure you book a late babysitter because I am sure everyone will gather in the Cypress Bar after for a nightcap.

So are you wondering what does one wear to a festive affair like this?  Let me tell you when, and where, you should shop to find an outfit fitting of this seersucker inspired spring time event.

Paix A Vous // 1901 HWY 190 // 985-231-7847

This shop is your go to place for upscale, contemporary fashion.  The most interesting thing about Paix A Vous is that it is a one stop shop.  Not only will you find the dress or outfit you are looking for but they carry an entire line of Virtue Luxe pieces for all of your accessory needs.  You will walk out with everything you need for the perfect evening.

Mackenzie and Me // 70488 HWY 21 STE 700 // 985-888-1588

This shop is your place for fun and festive attire.  Mackenzie is your shoe and earring girl.  She has the right shoes to compliment your outfit and the best thing is most of them are ‘dance all night’ comfortable.  She is also currently curating one of the cutest earring bars I have ever seen.  If you are looking for a two piece set, jumpsuit or maxi this is the place to go.

Au Darling // 3523 HWY 190 // 985-624-4477

This boutique is the place to shop for funky and over the top fashion.  Currently they are stocked with some of the cutest pants and skirt sets available locally.  You do not want to miss out on owners Kylen’s styling abilities too.  If you are looking for accessories to compliment the outfit you already have this would also be your go to location.  You can walk out the door with shoes, a bag and a necklace!

Fleurty Girl // 2885 HWY 190 // 985-778-0341

Maybe not the most expected place to land on my list but they have curated some of the most precious seersucker and southern prints.  I love the fact that they have really started branching out from just selling their famous New Orleans inspired t-shirts.  Owner Lauren Haydel has an amazing eye for things that are fun and fashionably New Orleans which would be perfect for this event.
